Three Views of Old City Hall

This was City Hall in 1866 the year of its construction. Winnipeg had become a city in 1881 and this was already its second city hall.
This is the demolition of city hall in 1962. Winnipeg had long suffered under an era of no growth epitomised by its almost 100 year old Victorian city hall. Building a new city hall was seen as a sign of progress. And rumours it was unsafe. Mayor Steve Juba would take people up to the clock tower and shake it demonstrating how unsafe it was.
